Dennis gets cold feet and leaves his pregnant fiancee at the alter. Five years later
we see that Dennis has not done much with his life since. Unsuccessfully getting by as
a security guard in a lingerie store, behind on his rent, unhealthy and out of shape it is
quickly established that he’s going no where fast.
Upon discovering that his ex is moving on with a man (Azaria) seemingly superior to him in all ways,
Dennis becomes determined to get his act together. In order to prove that he’s changed
he decides to run in the same twenty-six mile marathon for charity that Whit(Azaria) is.

This film had all the makings of a total knock out. Simon Pegg, Dylan Moran, and Hank Azaria
in a film tooled by Michael Ian Black and directed by Schwimmer?
This was a recipe for success, and still something came up missing. The story has an overabundance of flashbacks and slow-mo close ups. It begins with what might feel like a refreshing take on the replacement boyfriend scenario. Depicting Azaria as a stand up guy who is both successful and sensitive only to end it with the typical crap traits rising to the surface at the very end. It ends exactly as you’d expect it to unfortunately, which is a shame because I think it would have been nice to see a protagonist learn from his/her mistakes and eventually find happiness elsewhere.
Despite these things, the movie is still quite enjoyable. I had no problems with the pacing or character development. The entire cast was great and per usual, Simon Pegg and Dylan Moran shine as they deliver their performances genuinely and with great chemistry. See the film, enjoy some laughs.
(Check out the soundtrack which includes audio clips from the film and a great indie feel.)
