For those of you that haven’t been keeping up with 2K’s Bioshock Identity Crisis, here’s the gist. The first teaser trailer for Bioshock 2 was released and at the end, what most would assume is the title of the game was shown on screen: “Bioshock 2: Sea of Dreams.” As fans often do, some loved using something as the subtitle to the game whereas others thought it was stupid, or that it didn’t fit blahblahblah. Simply put, it was met with mixed feelings.
Later, 2k confirmed that the name would simply be Bioshock 2, sans the “Sea of Dreams” subtitle making all right with the world.
Wrong. Another teaser trailer was shown, and the subtitle showed up once again, despite 2K having officially nixed it. To add insult to injury, when asked at GDC whether or not the subtitle was staying or not, representatives of 2K weren’t exactly sure and decided to settle on “no comment.”
To clear things up for real this time, 2K Spokesman Charlie Sinhaseni told IGN:
“We name most of our trailers at 2K and the name of the teaser trailer we released last October for BioShock 2 is called ‘Sea of Dreams. There was talk about adding that as an official subtitle, but we decided to simply keep it BioShock 2. We’re sorry for the confusion, but we’re glad people are so interested.”
We’re happy to get a for real officially official word from 2K with the story behind it and all, but more than anything we’d love to find out how so much confusion came from the “talk about adding [it] as an official subtitle.” Hopefully they don’t screw it up yet again.
