We reported a while back on the rumors that The Weinstein Company had lost the rights to produce the long-delayed Sin City sequel. The Weinstein’s commented back then, saying that “TWC’s rights to produce sequels to Sin City remain intact as they always have been. Any suggestion to the contrary is complete hogwash.” The Hollywood Reporter says otherwise, though, reporting that several producers have been shopped the rights to set-up a potential follow-up.
If I were a producer, I’d jump at the chance to make Sin City 2. The first one was the gamble, trying to copy a comic so closely, but it made the money, which is the important part. There isn’t any shortage of Sin City stories, so nobody has to try fruitless to write one and crap on the property. The first movie was also lucky enough to be great and gross $159 million worldwide; Whoever does make Sin City 2 has their work cut out for them big time
