Myst has come to the app store, for download on the iPhone / iPod Touch. What’s that? Now the entire Myst experience can be ruined by quick access to the internet and a very low tolerance for brain-busting puzzles? Well, that’s just too bad.
You can experience this yourself for $6 and 730 megabytes, download it over-the-air in a matter of minutes and discard it after the first week. As much as everyone should experience MYST once in their life, this will ruin any amount of majesty the game once had to the newest generation of all-action, Halo/headshot gamers.
The good news is that the “original Myst sights and sounds have been meticulously re-assembled … in a format where a simple touch or swipe moves you through the world.” It is allegedly “better than original Myst,” and comes with auto-save, bookmarking and (sadly for the feeble-minded) quick access to the hint guide.
It’s very exciting to see such a classic game turned mobile for everyone with an iPhone or iPod Touch to enjoy, but those too ignorant to make it through such an intricate puzzle game will downplay the experience for others that are unsure about making the $6 leap.
Breakdown
Six dollars can buy you a lot of things (including, but not limited to):
- A matinee movie ticket to go see 17 Again with Zac Efron
- 6 Double Cheeseburgers from McDonalds
- Two large Iced Caramel Coffees at Panera Bread
- Half an hour of the minimum wage they’re paying the employee to make your two iced coffees
- Myst, one of the most popular and widely-recognized puzzle games to date.

So do your part to make Myst for the iPhone a good idea. Download the game, play the game, finish the game and tell everyone you know that Myst is worth all six of the dollars you spent on it.
