Art,
Comics Update: If you liked this, make sure you check out our second Doug Bloodworth post, Paintings, Not Pictures 2.
Every once in a while, there’s a photograph that catches your eye. A photograph that you have to take a closer look at, just to make sure your brain got it right the first time.
Doug Bloodworth is good at instilling this feeling into unsuspecting viewers, but not with photographs. No, he deals in something a lot more magical. Here’s what I mean:
“Monopoly” by Doug Bloodworth

“Batman & Peanut Butter” by Doug Bloodworth

“Weird-Oh” by Doug Bloodworth

“Rawhide Kid” by Doug Bloodworth

“Candy” by Doug Bloodworth

“Marbles” by Doug Bloodworth

“Godzilla TV” by Doug Bloodworth

“Watermelon” by Doug Bloodworth

“Wonder Woman” by Doug Bloodworth

Each “picture” is a painting by Doug Bloodworth done in either oil on canvas or airbrush on wood panel.
Doug Bloodworth has done countless other paintings in many different styles. He also does western paintings, murals, cartoons, billboards and buses. Prints of his work can be found at his website, DougBloodworth.com

this is nuts
lol in “Batman & Peanut Butter” the jar says “straw–” for strawberry but the picture is concord grape. it even says smackers instead of smuckers.
I am still geeking out at the incredible use of perspective and reflection.
Doug Bloodworth is my new personal hero. wow, i mean not just because of his amazing talent, but also because of the subject matter he chooses. it’s nostalgic and comforting, and absolutely amazing!
Pretty good, It’s just too bad painting can do specular or reflections properly.
Sorry, but…what’s the point in doing paintings like these?
Tremendous painter, I’d never be able to do anything like that (I have absolutely no patience, for anything) but I do have to say, the Hershey bar reflection is the biggest give-away that they’re paintings and not pictures. Not to mention each ‘brick’ of Hershey chocolate doesn’t have ‘Hershey’ stamped into it.

DB Comics instead of DC Comics.
It’s not the ‘point’ that matters my friend. It’s just admiring a skill. Picasso and every great artist needs to understand realism before they can understand art in the true sense.
These pictures are photoshopped i can tell by the pixels and having done a few shops in my time. plus it even says air brushing. IDIOTZ
llort, air brushing is using a paint gun….just the way artists do graphics on cars with an airbrush. Why is there always a moron that shouts out photoshop in every art posting??? If you can paint then you do not need photoshop because you can create the same effects with paint and a brush without any limitations. You might also try googling the guy before shouting photoshop so that you can get more info on him and his work. That way you can learn your wrong before looking like an idiot.
Jason, i think Ilort might just be trolling. ;)
I can understand the skepticism, but none of these photos have been photoshopped.
I know Doug Bloodworth personally and I’ve seen him paint countless times.
Doug Bloodworth does sometimes use an airbrush, but like, you know, a real one.
These are amazing! Those of you pointing out this and that, let’s see your work! You can tell they are paintings because they are! Mr. Bloodworth can probably do a completely photo realistic painting that none of us would be able to pick out but he paints and I’m sure he needs it to be apparent that these are indeed done with pure talent! HELLO! MORON! The “Air brush” existed as a real tool before Photoshop ever existed! Google it! Know what you’re talking about before you post it because you obviously have no business using photoshop if you don’t know what an airbrush is!
I knew what an airbrush was before there was ever such a thing as PS. These are amazing! Enjoy them for what they are pure fun art.
in godzilla tv, i thought the man was painted, i was like “Holy cows in india!”
I had a flashback of my childhood! What a great idea for paintings!! How realistic too! It invokes a memory and it’s so close to real I can imagine the feel of the marbles or the awesome comics and cola I’m about to enjoy sitting right in front of me. Cool.
Thanks for stopping by! We love Doug and all of his work. You can visit his website (Dougbloodworth.com) to see a complete gallery of his works!
YOU’RE STUPID!!!! They are all photographs!!!!!
Great stuff. I love the fact that all of the subjects of the paintings are so geeky.
@kiki art isn’t always made with a purpose, most of the time it’s meant to be looked at. If you want to see functional art work look into design.
@sorren …really? Have you even LOOKED at any of these paintings? They are well done, but not all of them are perfectly realistic. In the marbles one, the marbles don’t look quite real, and look above at Joe’s comment.
These are fantastic, I wonder how big they are and would like to see them in person. Those asking what the “point” is of making a photo realistic painting should keep in mind that seeing PHOTOS of this kind of work (or any paintings for that matter) is a far cry from actually being in front of them.
A lot of Doug’s paintings are done on Canvas about 36 inches by 48 inches (3 feet by 4 feet). So…they’re kind of giant.
Did anyone else notice how the jar of grape jelly says “straw” on it as if it’s labeled strawberry? :)
In the second picture down …the jelly jar says stawberry yet there are grapes on it lol…on another note your work id fucking amazing
There always has to be haters doesn’t there? This stuff is incredible. If I could paint this realistically I would just to show it off and all of you asking what’s the point know you would too. And I might be wrong, but I think all of the “mistakes” may be intentional, the artists own way of showing that they are indeed paintings and not photos. Really amazing work!
F*ckin? amazing things here. I am very satisfied to see your post. Thank you a lot and i’m taking a look ahead to contact you. Will you please drop me a e-mail?
