Chris Ware, creator of the Acme Novelty Library and the graphic novel, Jimmy Corrigan, the Smartest Kid on Earth, has a design up over at Shirt.Woot. Fronting the $15 gets you an official Chris Ware, Robot-adorned t-shirt but more importantly supports 826michigan, a non-profit organization that helps build the creativity of young students.
Purchasing your very own shirt supports 826michigan, the Great Lakes State chapter of 826 National. All of the artist’s proceeds will go directly to offering free workshops, tutoring, writing rooms and other resources to young students looking to develop their creative and expository writing skills. 826michigan also runs the Liberty Street Robot Supply & Repair facility who looks to aid automatons in eventual takeover of humanity, explaining the shirt’s design. The shirt features a wind-up robot diagram of sorts, fitting in with Ware’s personal retro-ish style while still subtly promoting the Liberty Street Robot Supply & Repair facility.
For those that are unfamiliar, Chris Ware’s Acme Novelty Library series has one of the highest bang-to-buck ratios out there. As well as including stories featuring various characters, the books are chock-full of extra illustrations, micro-comics and novelty ads. If you aren’t that into shirts (or this design, like many unlearned Wooters), or you’re really that into reading, you can pick up just about everything he’s done over at Amazon.
