Television
Breaking the trend of recent new television shows, the good things in V heavily outweighed the bad. The episode felt rushed and super-jam-packed with information, but hopefully they slow down in the next few episodes and really get into everything they’ve set up.

The pilot did what any good pilot should. The main characters were introduced, the Visitors voiced their “intentions” and we got the inside scoop on the human resistance. All the while we’re slowly clued into some of the Visitors most guarded secrets, leading up to the big reveal. All of this was important but squeezing so much into 40 minutes made the episode feel more like a montage. It came and went very quickly, skimming along the surface of the overall narrative. While skipping ahead three weeks seemed necessary for the story I think a two-hour premiere could have been paced better.
Beyond that, the rest went pretty well. Morena Baccarin excelled at appearing sympathetic to the humans and she really showed off her acting chops in the revealing moments leading up to the interview. Seeing her nonchalant deception speaks volumes of her character and stirs thoughts of the lengths she must have gone to secure the title of leader.
Right now, V has a lot of potential. If they slow it down and continue to thicken the plot we should have a science-fiction remake worthy of the original.

Did Platinum Dunes finally knock one out of the park or is this another sleek, heartless cash in? The answer lies somewhere in the middle I think. While this new Nightmare On Elm Street doesn’t improve upon the original, it DOES improve on every sequel with the exception of Wes Craven’s New Nightmare and perhaps more importantly, returns the character of Freddy Krueger to his murderous, capering-free roots.
