Perusing the aisles at the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo this year I came upon a well-dressed gentlemen, one Randy Field I later learned, who illustrated a heretofore unknown webcomic by the name of Problemtown. With its clever logo and cleverer tagline (“You can stay here or go. You have options.”) I stopped to see just what this man had to offer. Casually browsing, I was taken in by a few of his sketches, hanging on a rack getting a lot less attention than I thought they deserved. Illustrations of various Marvel, DC and other comic book characters gave me an idea.
Seeking out a gift for a sibling back home, an outspoken fanatic of Captain America I might add, gave me an idea. Being such a nice fellow and having paired pencil and wit so simply and fluidly, I decided I might commission art from this fine lad. Here’s what I got, and I’d say he did pretty amazingly:
