An “open-collaborative production company” allows creators and artists from around the world to collaborate. One person might make a video that another person puts to music that another person remixes and superimposes dinosaurs into. The way RegularJOE (Joseph Gordon-Levitt‘s name on the website) puts it, “Remix isn’t theft, it’s…how we create.”–A very basic but incredibly accurate description of hitRECord as a whole.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt created hitRECord with one goal in mind. He wanted a chance to collaborate with amazing artists around the world, not just celebrities or people working in Hollywood. The end goal is to garner the creativity of any person willing to take part, no matter if they’re well-known or not. These collaborations are referred to as “Records” for short, whether they be songs, pictures, movies or anything else.
It isn’t all charity work, though. “We don’t make movies to make money, we make money to make more movies…and that is why hitRECord is a for-profit company.” -RegularJOE. By “for profit” he means for the profit of everyone, not just the company. When hitRECord makes money, every collaborator involved makes money as well. The company and the creators split the profits exactly in half, benefiting all involved. The “profits” come from the compilations put together and sold on the hitRECord website.

RECOLLECTION is the first compilation of hitRECord collaborations. It can be loosely referred to as a “book” but it contains stories, pictures, a DVD of the videos and a CD of their songs. In total, RECOLLECTION collects 1,201 contributions by 471 collaborators chosen from the site specifically for the compilation.
If you’re interested at all, you can score your own copy at the hitRECord store for just $29.95. Even further, you can sign up to the hitRECord website and create something to be included in the next compilation
