Dave Rapoza spends his time reinterpreting some of your most beloved cartoon characters into true-to-life portraits. From Masters of the Universe to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to Thundercats, his renditions are miraculous. You can check out his website or browse more of his art over CGHub.

Yoni Alter, self-professed thinker and maker, has created a fun little piece called The Eyes Have It. It shows off how distinctive so many cartoon character’s eyes are and it’s fun to try and guess them all. There’s a static picture of it below, but it really needs to be interacted with to be fully experienced.

Ranging from an affordable $10 to a “rich eclectics only” $7,000, Art from Steel will immortalize anything you can dream of in cold, spiky metal. From cars and Terminators to Star Wars and Mickey Mouse, Art from Steel has a huge selection of pre-made statues for purchase.

What’s that? Not a fan of Transformers, Doctor Who, Star Wars or Back to the Future? Still have a soul? In special circumstances such as this they’ll do their best to “make almost anything from steel and reproduce ideas and or images to exact specifications.” They really aren’t afraid to talk themselves up, and with good reason.

This year, Archaia will be releasing a graphic novel series based on the Jim Henson’s The Storyteller television series. The books will be compilations from all sorts of wonderful people and still hold to the themes set forth in the original Storyteller series. Put simply, some of my favorite writers and illustrators are bringing back the magic that made The Storyteller so much fun. Oh, and I’m sure anyone that’s seen the show is going to have a pretty difficult time not doing the voices.

The Archaia site lists all sorts of people involved, including “Roger Langridge (The Muppet Show comic, Thor the Mighty Avenger), Marjorie Liu (Black Widow), Ron Marz (Green Lantern, Artifacts), Jeff Parker (Thor, Thunderbolts), Francesco Francavilla (Detective Comics), Chris Eliopoulos (Franklin Richards) and Janet Lee (Return of the Dapper Men). Plus: a never-before-seen story adapted from a screenplay by The Storyteller’s original author, Academy Award® winner Anthony Minghella (The English Patient).”

You can get a sneak peek of the first book on the Archaia website, and the set up they have lets you read it like you would a real comic. Katie Cook also gave us a sneak peek of her part, and says that she was asked to work in a very different style than she’s used to. “It’s not quite as cutesy-wootsy-shmootsy as I currently work. It’s different, I got a chance to branch out a bit and I had a great time doing it.” Here’s a small slice of her part, but you’ll have to pick up the book when it comes out to see the rest.

I’m not really a beer drinker myself (and by that I mean I can’t stand the stuff) but if there were ever a marketing campaign enough to convince me my opinion was wrong, this would be it. The behind-the-scenes video is below as well but keep in mind that it isn’t your normal “behind-the-scenes” fare. I guess what I’m trying to say is, even if you don’t drink or you hate Heineken, these are still two amazingly-produced videos worth the time it’ll take to get into them.
The song in the commercial is “Jaan Pehechaan Ho” by Mohammed Rafi, another quite enticing part of the video.

As far as comedians alive today, Louis CK is on top for me. Not only do his jokes bring me great joy and his FX Original Series bring with it glorious laughter, he’s just an awesome freakin’ guy. To avoid a lengthy post on my own opinions, I’ll just let you in on the most recent reason this guy is so great.

Despite “common sense” urging him to do otherwise, Louis CK recorded a special at the Beacon Theater with new all kinds of new material and is currently selling it for just 5 dollars. That’s just 5 dollars for a “no DRM, no regional restrictions, no crap” copy of Louis CK: Live at the Beacon theater to have and to hold forever. This was awesome enough in itself…then 200,000 people bought the damn thing and made the project over 1,000,000 dollars. Despite this, Louis continues to shine and has decided to distribute the money in the manner described below:

hi. So it’s been about 12 days since the thing started and yesterday we hit the crazy number. One million dollars. That’s a lot of money. Really too much money. I’ve never had a million dollars all of a sudden. and since we’re all sharing this experience and since it’s really your money, I wanted to let you know what I’m doing with it. People are paying attention to what’s going on with this thing. So I guess I want to set an example of what you can do if you all of a sudden have a million dollars that people just gave to you directly because you told jokes.

So I’m breaking the million into four pieces.

the first 250k is going to pay back what the special cost to produce and the website to build.

The second 250k is going back to my staff and the people who work for me on the special and on my show. I’m giving them a big fat bonus.

The third 280k is going to a few different charities. They are listed below in case you’d like to donate to them also. Some of these i learned about through friends, some were reccomended through twitter.

The Fistula Foundation

The Pablove Foundation

charity: water

Kiva

Green Chimneys

That leaves me with 220k for myself. Some of that will pay my rent and will care for my childen. The rest I will do terrible, horrible things with and none of that is any of your business. In any case, to me, 220k is enough out of a million.

If you haven’t already, throw 5 dollars at a comedy special worth 10 times that, you know, for the children.
